Connect Americans Now Welcomes American Broadband Initiative Report

PRESS RELEASE
February 14, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Connect Americans Now Executive Director Richard T. Cullen released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s American Broadband Initiative report:

“Today’s announcement and the American Broadband Initiative report demonstrate this administration’s commitment to bridging the rural broadband gap. The report includes many reforms that will be invaluable to ensuring our rural communities are connected, and we applaud their ongoing efforts.

“However, we are disappointed that the report makes no mention of removing the regulatory barriers limiting investments in TV white spaces technology. This technology is already working for thousands of rural Americans and removing the regulatory hurdles inhibiting its deployment would be in-line with the report’s stated goal of ‘removing regulatory barriers and expanding opportunities for successful private-sector capital investments.’

“This administration is clearly committed to bridging the rural broadband gap, and we encourage President Trump and other cabinet leaders to direct the Federal Communications Commission to take action on TV white spaces immediately.”
