Connect Americans Now Urges FCC To Open Rulemaking On TV White Spaces

PRESS RELEASE
May 3, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Connect Americans Now (CAN) Executive Director Richard T. Cullen released the following statement after the Microsoft Corporation filed a Petition for Rulemaking to resolve the outstanding regulatory barriers that are holding TV White Spaces technology back:

“The FCC sent a strong signal to rural Americans in March that it is serious about bridging the digital divide when it finalized the TV White Spaces Unlicensed Reconsideration and Database Accuracy proceedings. However, there are still a number of outstanding regulatory issues that must be resolved to give ISPs and hardware manufacturers the certainty they need to build and fully deploy TV White Spaces technology.

“The FCC can now build on its previous action, and we hope it will review Microsoft’s petition and quickly commence a rulemaking that will bring us closer to bridging the digital divide.”
