Washington, D.C. – Connect Americans Now (CAN) executive director Richard T. Cullen issued the following statement Wednesday ahead of a U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Communications, Media and Broadband hearing, “Oversight of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration” on Thursday.
“Connect Americans Now (CAN) encourages lawmakers and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Administrator Alan Davidson to use this hearing as an opportunity to highlight the importance and value of an all-of-the-above approach to broadband deployments to permanently bridge the digital divide,” Cullen said. “CAN has commended Members of Congress for clearly establishing support for an all-of-the-above approach in the bipartisan infrastructure law’s broadband programs and Davidson for repeatedly affirming his commitment to providing the flexibility needed to maximize the positive impact of these resources.”
“CAN hopes to hear how NTIA is working with states and broadband providers to ensure as many people as possible are connected to affordable, reliable broadband as rapidly as possible,” Cullen added. “Lawmakers can also use this opportunity to highlight the importance of prioritizing unserved communities first, to ensure no one is left further behind as these programs are implemented.”
Connect Americans Now (CAN) is a broad-based coalition of more than 300 companies and organizations representing leading voices in agriculture, education, health care, veterans’ issues, technology, and small business — committed to urgent action to completely eliminate the digital divide in every American community.
