Washington, D.C. – Connect Americans Now (CAN) executive director Richard T. Cullen released the following statement Monday reacting to news that the Affordable Connectivity Program, administered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), surpassed 10 million enrolled households.

“The enrollment of more than 10 million U.S. households in the recently established Affordable Connectivity Program demonstrates the importance of broadband adoption solutions and the urgency for additional action to completely eliminate the digital divide in every American community,” Cullen said. “Connect Americans Now commends Congress and the Administration for advancing recent legislation establishing this vital permanent program and applauds the FCC for the program’s successful implementation that is already helping millions of people afford broadband service.”

“Policymakers must build on the positive momentum for action with additional permanent solutions to ensure every American has access to a reliable, affordable broadband connection and the digital devices and skills necessary for success in the 21st century classroom and economy,” Cullen continued. “The successful implementation of additional broadband programs established by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will also be critical to that mission, including deployment programs administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) that must be guided by a technology neutral approach to maximize the positive impact of federal resources.”
